Just tuned in to ANC and their breaking news is this: Foreigners Held Hostage in Quirino Grandstand by former Sr. Insp. Rolando Mendoza. According to ANC, Mendoza is among 5 MPD cops who allegedly extorted money from a hotel chef named Christian Kalaw and forced him to eat shabu. He was dismissed from service over extortion and harassment raps.
Main negotiator on the scene is Yebra, a US trained kidnapping negotiator. Hostage started around 10:15 this morning. So far six (6) hostages has been released as of 12:07PM – 2 female adults released first followed by another female adult with two boys and one girl. There were about 25 people inside the tourist bus Hong Thai Travel. The tourists are either Korean or Hong Kong nationals and there are three Filipinos inside too. They were on their way to the Manila Ocean Park. That was according to what was reported in ANC. But according to a comment from Armi Cortes of Manila Ocean Park “Hong tai bus does nat have a scheduled booking at Manila Ocean Park”.
Update: So far, nine (9) hostages has been released in the still ongoing hostage situation for eight hours now. There are still sixteen (16) hostages held captive in the bus. Mendoza demands reinstatement to service after he was dismissed in April 2008.

Just a clirification, Hong tai bus does nat have a scheduled booking at Manila Ocean Park. According to our sources,They came from fort santiago and then was on the way to another destination in manila but not at Manila Ocean Park. Ung mga police hindi ma buksan ung front door ng bus eh sabi nga ng tatay ko ay meron daw something dun sa ilalim na pag ginalaw mo mabubukas ung pinto and un rin ung sinabi ng concerned citizen dun kay mel tiango sa 24 oras. At puwede pa naman nakuha sa usapan (mabait na mabait pa daw ung hostage taker nung umaga) kundi lang dahil dun sa panghuhuli dun sa kapatid ng hostage taker hindi naman magwawala yun eh, palibasa naging maagreso ung mga opisyals at minadali para mahuli na agad palibasa di naman sila ung hostage.
